Hello there and welcome back!
Before I get into today’s post I want to apologize for having blog posts coming back to back over the next couple weeks. I promise to get things spaced out a bit more so everything is not right on top of each other. I had some medical stuff I have had to address and that has put me a bit behind with getting projects completed and posted. Also, I promise to have some videos going forward, but since I am behind, creating and blogging is a bit quicker so I can get caught up. I hope you understand and stick with me.
Let’s get into today’s project!
I am excited to be able to share the new Stitched Die of the Month for January.
What I love about this club is you do not have to stitch with it, but if you want to add some extra detail you can! This month’s club comes with oval die cuts that can all be used individually. The center piece you see in black in my photo can be cut into the frame you see or you can just cut the outer frame and keep the center solid. It also comes with a Lady Bug and some banner sentiments: Thank You, So Much, A Gift, For You, and a small flower and leaf.
I chose to die cut to make the frame and added a piece of vellum that I hot foiled and stitched those two pieces together. I used gold metallic thread to stitch the center and the lady bug wings. What’s great about this is you cannot do it wrong. I am no expert in stitching so no worries if you aren’t either, you cannot do it wrong. Honestly I could not come close to explaining the multiple ways to stitch since I am also a beginner, but here is a link to a great informative video from Jennifer McGuire.
I will tell you my process which was really simple. I threaded my needle and tied the two ends in a knot together, Jennifer does not do this, but shows a couple other ways to keep control of your tails. The knot worked best for me so I stuck with it. I then fed my needle from the bottom or underside up through the inner hole closest to the center of the oval and started stitching. A video would help here I know…hahaha Check out Jennifers for now and next month I will have one for sure.
For the lady bug I used the same gold thread and die cut the pink wings from a pigment powder piece I had in my stash. I thought I would change it up from just plain red cardstock and I like it.
The black cardstock is all Brushed Black Metallic from Spellbinders and I used black floss for all the black stitching. The Thank you sentiment comes from the freebie die that came with my new Spellbinders Platinum 6 die cutting machine. I used matte gold cardstock to complement all the gold stitching and foil. I did add an extra die cut of white cardstock to layer with the thank you to give it more sturdiness.
I used a soft pink cardstock and embossed it with the Four Petal Floral 3D Embossing folder. The vellum is hot foiled with matte gold foil using the A Friend Like You Bouquet press plate.
I used liquid glue to adhere all the pieces of the lady bug and the thank you die cut and double sided adhesive on the back of the black frame but not on the vellum. I also used double sided adhesive on the back of the lady bug to adhere to the front of the frame.
I used an A2 side folding card base from Simon Says Stamp in the color Fog, such a great soft light grey…I love it!
I added double sided adhesive to the back of the pink panel and adhered it to the card base.
I just love how delicate this is and it also is another design that lends itself to multiple different sentiments.
I found doing the stitching very relaxing once I got things going. Things are pretty stressful here at home and crafting helps me deal with it. The stitching is something I can do on the couch while creating beautiful pieces for my cards.
Are you a stitcher? Since I am not an avid stitcher, the stitched die of the month will be a great way to build up my stash. I hope you will join me on this journey.
I want to thank you for sticking with me and sharing in my creative journey.
As a side note, I just signed up for the August Card Maker Success Summit 2025, so lots of exciting things for the new year!
Thanks so much for joining me,
Katy
