Hello Friends! I have a fun post to share featuring new BetterPress Plates from Spellbinders. Today’s post offers a great way to use BetterPress Plates with no fancy machines, if you’re not in to that!
First Up, December – Holly Berry
I love how simple this design is! I started off by die cutting an oval mask and did some light ink blending on some hot pressed watercolor paper from Altenew using Distress Ink in Iced Spruce and Versafine Clair Spruce. I removed the mask and added a bit of the Versafine Clair Spruce in the center to soften it a bit.
Next I took to my stamp positioner, this will work in both the MISTI and the Stampwheel from Altenew.
In the MISTI you need to add some foam to compensate for the thinness of the plate, I will have a video up soon showing this and will update the post once it is live. But here is a pic to give you an idea. I have my Hero Arts mouse pad in there as well.
Once you have that set, add REPOSITIONABLE adhesive, this is what I used. I emphasize that because you want to be able to get the adhesive off your plate when you are done so you can use it as intended or for foiling.
Once the adhesive is on the back of your plate, place things where you would like and then close the door and pick up your plates. Reinforce the adhesive by gently pressing on the open door.
One note, if you have the Stampwheel, all you need is what comes with it. The photopolymer mat is thick enough.
Another note, if you have the Waffle Flower Grip Mat that can be put in the MISTI you can use that in place of the white craft foam you see in the photo, but you still need the mouse pad or something to add thickness. Again, I will have a video showing all this very soon to make it easy to understand.
I used Versafine onyx black ink to ink up the Holly Berry and the sentiment which comes from Yana’s Home For Christmas Sentiments BetterPress Plates.
I did ink this up twice to get a good impression. I used Simon Says Stamp School House Red cardstock as the base and added a layer of Spellbinders Brushed White cardstock under the ink blended panel.
Super simple and a great way to stretch those press plates or be able to use the press plates without needing any fancy machine.
Up next, same technique using the press plates in the stamp positioner, this time with different masking and using the October Cosmos press plates and New Beginnings Timeless Sentiments Press Plates.
This card uses masking paper to cover the top and bottom and used Antique Linen, Victorian Velvet, Seedless Preserves, Chipped Sapphire and the tiniest amount of Black Soot Distress inks.
I set up my MISTI the same way as above and used Versafine onyx black ink to do my stamping. Let me note, I used the 100lb Hammermill cardstock, the one used for hot foiling. I did still need to double stamp, but with it being in the stamp positioner and adhered to the door it worked beautifully. Just remember to use the corner as your guide so you can replace your paper in the correct spot.
Next up, August Poppy. Same Technique as the other 2, I just used an arch die to create a mask and ink blended Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade, Candied Apple, Lumberjack Plaid and a small amount of Aged Mahogany Distress ink. I used the same 100lb Hammermill cardstock and stamped in Versafine onyx black ink twice.
Something I want to stress here, once you have inked up your plate, if you get any ink on the door, clean it off, It will transfer to your project! I forgot and you can see the black dots just above the with. The red ink in the yellow, that was a candied apple fuzz on my blending tool!
Once I was done ink blending I peeled off the mask, really bold, I love it!
The With Sincere Sympathy comes from Always You Timeless Sentiments press plate.
I have one last product to share that is great to hold just about anything including your cell phone if you need it to!
The DIY Easel!
I cut the easel die out of black card stock. What a handy little die to have!
Thanks so much for joining me today! Be on the lookout for the video to see this technique in action.
